Blackberry and oats are being put to good use in skin care applications at Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health; the former, for anti-aging and the latter, to alleviate discomfort associated with cancer treatments.

Simarna Kaur, Ph.D., platform leader and R&D fellow for translational science at J&J, explained, in this Cosmetics R&D Vlog entry. Kaur was recently honored by the company with a medal for “uncovering the power of naturals to holistically elevate skin health.”

The award relates to her work on a Blackberry Complex that was found to increase skin elasticity. More recently, J&J also leveraged the company’s expertise in oats in onco-dermatology to improve the skin condition of patients undergoing cancer treatment.
