Cosmetic Executive Women’s (CEW) upcoming Women in Beauty Series event, Oct. 14, 2010, will focus on the current state of beauty retail. The roundtable panel discussion will feature Marla Malcolm Beck, founder and CEO, Bluemercury, Inc.; Karen Grant, vice president and global beauty industry analyst, The NPD Group; Sharon Rothstein, senior vice president, marketing, Sephora USA; and Nancy Schmidt, group vice president, divisional merchandise manager cosmetics - trend & prestige, Macy’s.
The discussion will focus on the strengths and challenges in today’s marketplace for beauty’s top categories. Panelists will also share insights into the consumer’s mindset and what she is ultimately looking for in a brand experience and all of the available retail channels (including the changing state of social media and other digital platforms) that the beauty industry is presently leveraging.

The discussion begins at 6:30 PM at the Harmonie Club in New York City. - Beck founded Bluemercury Inc., and leads Bluemercury’s merchandising, marketing, planning and store operations teams to drive growth and profitability.
- Grant provides a comprehensive view of the market, coupling expertise on brand management with strategic insights of market research.
- Rothstein joined Sephora USA in May 2009, and served as senior vice president, global marketing and merchandising at Godiva Chocolatier prior to that. In her current role, Rothstein leads the company’s marketing strategy as it enters its second decade in North America.
- Previously, Schmidt was the group vice president, divisional merchandise manager of fragrance at Macy’s. She has been working in beauty at Macy’s since 2004.
