Henkel Beauty Care has announced its latest project: Schwarzkopf Professional SalonLab.
SalonLab, according to Henkel, is a digital ecosystem for quantifying and customizing the hair care experience, propelling hair salons into the digital age through the use of near-infrared hair diagnostics and augmented reality (AR) color consultation.
SalonLab was reportedly created to measure hair condition and color. Additionally, it provides customers with personalized products and services by analyzing hair at the molecular level and evaluating data-driven insights.
The Details
- SalonLab Analyzer: A handheld device that measures inner hair quality, moisture level and true hair color through the use of near-infrared and visible light sensors. The data is then analyzed by an algorithm developed by Henkel to assist hairdressers while providing clients with personalized color and care consultations.
- SalonLab Consultant App: Hairdressers can utilize the application to display the client's hair diagnostic results during a consultation. The app also employs AR technology to reveal what a color will look like on a client before it is applied. The app provides individual care solution recipes and real-time production via the SalonLab Customizer.
- SalonLab Customizer: The Customizer was created to produce personalized hair care products on-site based on a client's hair data. Henkel explained that the Customizer works by combining different combinations of ingredients and fragrances on the spot. Products are then dispensed in salon-sized portions or small bottles with a personalized label printed directly from the customizer.

SalonLab is the two-time recipient of the CES 2018 Innovation Awards and is set to debut at CES in Las Vegas this month. It will launch in select Schwarzkopf Professional hair salons in the U.S. and Europe in 2018.
