Nutrafol is adding another layer to its hair-health proposition with the launch of Strand Serum, its first clinically tested, physician-formulated serum focused specifically on the hair fiber. The move expands the brand’s approach beyond the biological factors behind hair thinning and into what happens after hair emerges from the scalp: protecting the strand so it can retain visible length.

The positioning addresses a specific tension in the hair-growth category: consumers can support new growth but still perceive that their hair “isn’t growing” if vulnerable strands break before reaching visible length. Nutrafol says Strand Serum is designed to address that gap by improving hair porosity and strengthening the fiber from cortex to cuticle. Its DualFusion Complex combines a water phase intended to penetrate the cortex with an oil phase designed to seal the cuticle.

The resulting claims are notably centered on fiber integrity rather than growth. In Nutrafol’s testing, the serum delivered 6x stronger hair, reduced breakage by up to 83% and split ends by 62%, while providing up to 72 hours of frizz reduction and heat protection up to 450°F. The company says the formula went through 36 ingredient candidates, 54 formulation iterations and 18 preclinical studies before the final formula was selected.

That makes the launch an important extension of Nutrafol’s increasingly segmented approach to hair health. In February, the company introduced Men 50+, a hair-growth nutraceutical specifically formulated around the biological changes it associates with men entering their 50s and beyond. The product joined Nutrafol’s existing men's formula and extended its life-stage strategy into a more specific demographic.

Then in July, Nutrafol introduced the next generation of its Booster Nutraceuticals, continuing to build out a portfolio based on more targeted approaches to hair health. The latest serum takes that same portfolio logic into topical care: rather than treating hair growth as a single intervention, Nutrafol is assembling products around different stages and aspects of the hair journey.

Nutrafol’s current portfolio addresses different variables—including life stage, biological factors and targeted nutritional support—while Strand Serum adds the physical condition of the existing fiber to the equation. The company explicitly describes the progression as moving from growth to length, with nutraceuticals supporting hair from within, scalp products supporting the growth environment and Strand Serum addressing the strand itself.

The launch also gives Nutrafol another format in which to translate its science-led positioning. Strand Serum will launch at $54 for 30 ml, with availability through Nutrafol.com, healthcare professionals and Amazon beginning October 6, followed by a $54 serum-and-brush kit exclusive to Ulta Beauty on October 11.
