Sol de Janeiro's Rio Radiance SPF 50 Sunscreen Launch Highlights the SPF Hybrid Boom

Sol de Janeiro has broken into the sun care sector with its Rio Radiance SPF 50 Sunscreen Collection comprising three formats and finishes: Rio Radiance SPF 50 Body Lotion, Rio Radiance SPF 50 Body Spray and Rio Radiance SPF 50 Body Oil.

The launch comes at a boom time for hybrid SPF products. As Global Cosmetic Industry previously reported, consumer usage of sunscreens to prevent cancer grew 20% in 2023, versus 2021, per Mintel; in fact, 54% of sunscreen users reported more frequent product application compared to 2022.

Yet growth in the sunscreen sector is expected to be modest through 2027 “due to the rise of multifunctional personal care products that include SPF,” according to the firm, which added that 57% of surveyed consumers reported daily use of SPF-boosted personal care.

The new Sol de Janeiro range features the brand's Cheirosa 87 scent, featuring notes of coconut milk, tuberose, ylang ylang, vanilla and amber.

The formulations impart an "incredible skin feel," per the brand, "providing natural radiance."

The SPF 50 body lotion visibly evens skin tone while it moisturizes, while the SPF 50 body spray refreshes and hydrates skin. In addition, the SPF 50 body oil visibly brightens and nourishes the skin without feeling greasy.
