One Click Retail recently released two reports on Amazon's Q2 sales for the Health & Personal Care (HPC) and Beauty categories in the U.S. and U.K. markets.

The U.S. HPC & Beauty Report for Q2 2018

The U.S. HPC & Beauty report states that both categories saw sales reach nearly $2 billion, a 30% increase compared to the same period in 2017.

One Click Retail explained that Q2 2018 saw "notable changes" in consumer habits and attributes them to seasonal influence, e.g., summer skin care products. According to the report, in Q1 2018, solar protection made up about 9% of the mass skin care category; in Q2, that proportion doubled to 18% and sunscreens entered the top product spots. Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen was reportedly the #5 beauty item of Q2.

Other findings include...

  • The estimated total sales for HPC on Amazon.com were $1.9 billion, a 23% increase YoY;
  • The estimated total sales for beauty were $950 million, a 26% increase YoY;
  • Nutrition and wellness sales were over $600 million, a 32% increase YoY;
  • Baby care sales were over $410 million, a 27% increase YoY;
  • Mass skin care sales were over $180 million, a 35% increase YoY;
  • Personal hygiene sales were over $110 million, a 38% increase YoY;
  • Shaving and hair removal sales were over $100 million, a 25% increase YoY;
  • The top beauty items in the beauty were Men's Rogaine Hair Loss & Hair Thinning Treatment Minoxidill Foam, Active Wow Teeth Whitening Charcoal Powder Natural and TruSKin Naturals Vitamin C Serum for Face, respectively;
  • Total sales for luxury beauty were $250 million, a 57% increase YoY;
  • Professional salon and spa sales were over $50 million, a 73% increase YoY;
  • Luxury skin care sales were over $50 million, a 33% increase YoY;
  • Derma skin care sales were over $40 million, a 63% increase YoY; and
  • Beauty appliance sales were over $30 million, a 102% increase YoY.

The U.K. HPC & Beauty Report for Q2 2018

The U.K. report states that both categories generated an estimated £130 million in sales, an increase of around 40% compared to the same period in 2017.

Much like the U.S. market, Amazon.co.uk's HPC and Beauty categories saw seasonally-influenced changes due to summer skin products. However, the report also found that these changes "suggest a long-term shift in how people shop, such as Amazon’s growing share of the Beauty market."

Other findings include...

  • The estimated total sales for HPC on Amazon.co.uk were £85 million, a 26% increase YoY;
  • The estimated total sales for Beauty were £45 million, a 47% increase YoY;
  • Mass skin care sales were over £15 million, a 61% increase YoY;
  • Mass hair care and styling sales were over £10 million, a 67% increase YoY;
  • Makeup sales were over £5 million, a 30% increase YoY; and
  • The top beauty items were Foreo Luna Mini 2 Facial Cleansing Brush and Anti-aging Skin Care Device, RapidLash Eye Lash Enhancing Serum and Proactiv 3-Step System for Clearing Spot-prone Skin (60-day Supply).
