Purell Initiates Loyalty Program

Gojo Industries, owners of the Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer brand, launched the "Be Well Network" loyalty program to reward its consumers for healthy hand hygiene habits and encourage them to spread the word about how to reduce the risk of illness and infection in their daily lives. Members of the Be Well Network will earn points for a variety of activities in addition to product purchase, including sharing hand health tips with their social networks or contributing their own point-of-views on how to stay healthy.

"We see the Purell Be Well Network as much more than a purchase-based or reward-for-purchases program," said Kathleen Leigh, marketing director, Purell consumer, e-commerce, shopper marketing. "This community has been designed with two-way engagement in mind, so we can learn from our loyal consumers about hygiene issues that are important to them and, in turn, we can share the best of our hand health expertise for them to share with their friends and families."

Gojo has published and conducted scientific research, with national and international thought leaders in the field, on the effectiveness of hand hygiene in reducing the spread of germs that can cause illness and infection. According to Gojo scientist Jim Arbogast, PhD, these studies show that providing an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and education about good hand hygiene has led to significant, documented results.

"The two measures of using Purell hand sanitizer and hand hygiene education led to 20% reduction in absenteeism in a workplace setting and [a] 50% reduction in absenteeism in schools. These results point to the attention that must be paid to good hand hygiene throughout the day, at home, at work, at school and especially in public areas where people congregate," said Arbogast.

Along with rewards for purchases, the Be Well Network loyalty participants will be rewarded for actions and engagement with the brand on social media or through purell.com. Rewards include products, coupons and gift cards for Nike, Dick's Sporting Goods, REI and Lululemon, and the chance to win a one-year gym membership.

"We consider ourselves fortunate to have enthusiastic Purell brand advocates who are committed to healthy practices in their homes and communities, so we hope that they can help us spread the word about the importance of hand hygiene. As we know that healthy living can be the best reward of all," Leigh added.
