Amyris Closing Brands, May Restructure: Reports

A pair of stories this week point to significant potential changes ahead at Amyris.

First up, an investor note from Seeking Alpha points out that the company could enter bankruptcy proceedings, with investor John Doerr emerging as the leading shareholder

The news comes following the departure of John Melo, president and CEO of Amyris, who oversaw the ingredient and consumer brand company's evolution in beauty, flavor and fragrance.

Amyris' brands include JVN and curl-centric 4U by Tia, launched earlier this year.

Now comes news that Amyris is shuttering its Onda Beauty and Costa Brazil brands.

Onda was founded by actress Naomi Watts, who also has a menopause-focused brand, Stripes, under the Amyris banner. Stripes' fate is unknown. 

Costa Brazil was acquired by Amyris in 2021
