Signals Analytics has released its report on consumer beauty trends from Q1 2021, using AI to analyze more than 13,000 external data sources.

Conversations around the following skin care products specifically increased in Q1 2021 compared to 2020:

  • “dark spots control” posts went up 72%

  • “redness control” posts went up 76% 

  • “clarity improvement” posts went up 282% 

  • “dullness control” as a benefit went up 282% 

Demand for lip products are increasing as mask requirements are being lifted:

  • “lip balm” posts went up 23% when comparing Q1 2021 to Q4 2020

  • “lip primer” posts went up 14% when comparing Q1 2021 to Q2 2020

  • “lip plumper” posts went up 59% when comparing Q1 2021 to Q4 2020

The "sun-kissed glow" look is also on the rise: 

  • “tinted moisturizer” posts went up 36% when comparing Q1 2021 to Q2 2020

  • “self-tanning” posts went up 21% when comparing Q1 2021 to Q4 2020

The beauty insights showed there was also a 78.7% increase in discussions around the benefit "lightweight" between Q1 2020 and Q1 2021.
