According to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Sharon Chuter died at the age of 38 on August 14, 2025.

After bringing Revlon to Nigeria, Chuter held roles at L’Oréal, LVMH and Pepsi. Her experiences inspired her to found the first Afropolitan makeup brand, as she termed it, Uoma Beauty.

Chuter has also helped hold organizations accountable for representation and practices via the @pullupforchange direct action movement, which fought for economic opportunities for Black communities.

During an upswell of inclusivity initiatives post-2020, Chuter was a leading voice of the Make It Black campaign and #PullUpOrShutUp, which demanded that brands publicly disclose the number of Black executives in their organizations.

While many of the inclusivity gains made in the wake of the murder of George Floyd have been clawed back, Chuter's advocacy continues to resonate throughout the beauty industry.
