Living Proof is challenging one of dry shampoo’s most entrenched conventions: that a product designed to extend time between washes needs to come from a pressurized aerosol can and leave some evidence behind.

The brand’s new Perfect hair Day Sheer Clean Dry Shampoo Mist, launching today, August 14, for $33, is its first non-aerosol dry shampoo—and more significantly, it borrows its core technology from skin care. The micellar-powered mist uses a patent-pending Micellar Bi-phase Cleansing System designed to loosen and absorb oil while delivering what Living Proof describes as a 100% invisible finish and weightless feel.
Instead of masking oil with powder, Living Proof is positioning the product as a lightweight cleansing treatment for the hair and scalp, translating the micellar-water concept from facial cleansing into hair care.
Living Proof says nearly seven in 10 U.S. women wash their hair only a few times per week, while only two in 10 use dry shampoo. The brand identifies white residue, a lack of a genuinely clean feeling and the limitations of existing formats as key barriers to adoption.
Living Proof’s answer is a dual-phase liquid formula rather than the conventional powder-in-aerosol approach. The formula also incorporates a Micro-suspending Network intended to enable even application and Bioadaptive Superfruit to help maintain scalp moisture and comfort. The result is designed to sit somewhere between dry shampoo and skin care: a product intended to address the sensory experience of hair that has not been washed.
The development process underscores how far the brand pushed the format. “Creating a non-aerosol solution that delivers the high-performance clean consumers have come to expect from Living Proof, while achieving a truly invisible finish, was an incredibly complex technical challenge,” said Ron McLaughlin, chief R&D officer at Living Proof. “Through years of evaluating technologies, formats, and delivery systems—completing 884 performance tests, conducting 314 experiments, creating 146 prototypes and exploring more than 30 pump options—we refined the formula to deliver a consistent, high-performing clean hair experience.”
Living Proof entered dry shampoo in 2015 and says one of its dry shampoos now sells every 10 seconds based on 2025 global sales. Sheer Clean adds a lighter, gentler option to its existing portfolio rather than simply replacing its established formulas.
“For more than a decade, Living Proof has pushed the boundaries of what dry shampoo can achieve through breakthrough science and a deep understanding of our consumers,” said Brian Kennedy, CEO of Living Proof. “Perfect hair Day Sheer Clean Dry Shampoo Mist represents the next chapter in our dry shampoo innovation journey and our continued commitment to developing solutions that evolve alongside changing consumer needs and routines.”
