Sunscreen + Care Benefits

Described as a weightless fluid, Mucin SPF 50+++ has been clinically proven to refine skin texture, reduce pore size and promote a more radiant complexion over time, per the company. The formula also is reportedly sweat- and water-resistant, and suitable for all skin types.

In addition to the snail mucin and glutathione, featured ingredients include:

  • Hyaluronic acid and ceramide, to lock in moisture and strengthen the skin's natural defenses against environmental stressors and irritants. This strengthens the skin's resilience, reducing the risk of sensitivity and inflammation.
  • Also, Scutellaria baicalensis root extract and willow bark shield against pollution and promote skin renewal. Studies have additionally confirmed anti-aging attributes, actively promoting skin elasticity and diminishing wrinkles.

"...[W]e are excited to introduce Mucin SPF 50+++ as a game-changer in sun protection," said Ashish Jawa, founder of Personal Touch Skincare. "Our goal is to offer skincare solutions that not only protect but also nourish and enhance skin health."

What's in Snail Mucin? Does it Work?

Considering the steady interest in snail mucin, we we dug a little deeper to see what's in it and whether experts believe it's effective. One recent review in the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules reported snail mucus mainly consists of:

  • two polysaccharides (glycosaminoglycan, dextran),
  • seven glycoproteins (such as mucin and lectin),
  • antibacterial peptides,
  • allantoin and
  • glycolic acid, among other materials.

The authors also noted in vitro and in vivo studies show snail mucus has a wide range of pharmacological effects, including "promoting cell proliferation and migration, promoting angiogenesis, and antibacterial, antioxidant, anticancer and other activities," many of which afford skin repair and wound healing benefits.

The Mayo Clinic apparently agrees. In a story exploring "The Truth About Snail Mucin for Skin Care," the source noted that "certain types of snail mucin have moisturizing and protective qualities and antioxidants that may help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, uneven skin tone and sagging."

What's Next - Salmon Sperm?

With the surging and steady popularity of snail slime as a cosmetic ingredient, it's only natural to look to other animal "outputs" for beauty benefits. It's anyone's guess as to where it will come from next, but our eyes are on salmon sperm, thanks to Kim Kardashian's and cosmetic nurse Alex Pike's recent headlines. We'll be watching.
