Social media has rapidly expanded from a platform for self expression to a critical marketing, education and retail channel for beauty brands of every scale.
Having given rise to beauty influencers, social media is now the go-to space for coveted Gen Z, millennial and Gen X consumers (and beyond).
As a result, social media, from TikTok to Instagram and Facebook, is setting trends and beauty standards (for good and ill), signaling shifts in consumer sentiment, shaping marketing strategies and even inspiring beauty product innovation.
To help demystify this dynamic environment, Beauty Accelerate has tapped influencers @allisonturquoise and @chemistconfessions to discuss their role in communication and education on social platforms as part of a special session, "Product Design in the Age of Beauty Influencers."
UPDATE: We're delighted to announce that Alexis Androulakis and Christina Basias, Ph.D., AKA The Lipstick Lesbians (676.1K followers and 26.4 million likes on TikTok at last count) are joining the discussion.
Together, they spread beauty product development education on Gen Z's (and, increasingly, Generation Alpha's) favorite social platform.
Androulakis is a beauty product development specialist and brand strategist, while Basias’ expertise in education technology helps power the duo's educational outreach.
Collectively, our experts will discuss the role of influencers in shaping product innovation both implicitly and explicitly.
In addition, attendees will receive best practices for engaging and partnering with influencers in the B2C and even B2B space.
Unlike many influencers, @thelipsticklesbians, @allisonturquoise and @chemistconfessions have behind-the-scenes beauty expertise that informs their content.
@chemistconfessions, AKA Victoria Fu, is the co-founder of Chemist Confessions, Inc., a science-forward skin care brand.
Fu is a chemical engineer, as is her co-founder, Gloria Lu. Their Chemist Confessions platform started as an Instagram account to educate and empower the individual to confidently navigate the skin care world.
The account grew into a blog, podcast, skin care line and book, "Skincare Decoded."
Fu earned her master's in chemical engineering at the Univ. of California, San Diego. She previously worked for Kiehl’s, where she specialized in anti-aging products. That's also where she met Lu; the two realized they shared the same passion for user-friendly, transparent skin care.
Fu's and Lu's work and unique perspective have been featured in the media in such outlets as NPR, Vogue and The New York Times.
@allisonturquoise, AKA Allison Turquoise (Kent-Gunn), is a sales director for packaging firm Jansy, as well as an independent consultant and content creator. It is in this latter capacity that Kent-Gunn is taking part in this special session.
She has more than years of experience behind the scenes and has collaborated with beauty brands ranging from indies to internationals to bring their product packaging from ideation to mass production.
While she currently works as a sales director, her passion for packaging and sustainability extends beyond her 9 to 5.
In addition to her full time sales director job, she also teaches a college level cosmetic packaging class at FIDM, offers independent consulting to brands that need professional guidance navigating the world of packaging, and leverages her Instagram presence to help educate consumers and brands alike on the nuances of sustainable packaging.
