Stephenson, an expert in soap bases and ingredients for beauty and personal care, introduces its Durosoft range of naturally derived polyglyceryl esters. The products were developed to answer the demand for natural products and green formulations across a wide variety of personal care and cosmetic applications; from creams, solid lotions and cleansing oils, to micellar water.

Rob Carr, managing director of the Yorkshire-based company, explained, “With Durosoft, we can answer the unique requirements of new product developers and formulation labs around sustainable emulsifiers and solubilizers – offering specific value for natural and sustainable raw material claims.”

Durasoft Range of Vegan, Sustainable Polyglyceryl Esters

The Durasoft range of mild and effective solutions is said to be ideal for use as w/o or o/w emulsifiers to create stable emulsions, as solubilizers, as emollients or as foam boosters.

The range includes:

  • Durasoft PG4-O (INCI: Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate): Specially designed for water-in-oil formulations, this emulsifier is described as perfect for blending oils seamlessly into creams and cleansers. It supports certifications by COSMOS and NATRUE, and aligns with China's compliance, making it a globally accepted choice.
  • Durosoft PG4L-SG (INCI: Polyglyceryl-4 Laurate): This product is said to create natural, low-viscosity cosmetic creams and lotions effortlessly and is derived entirely from palm kernel oil. It requires no co-emulsifier and reportedly works seamlessly with active ingredients to deliver them to the skin surface.
  • Durosoft PG10-O (INCI: Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate): Formulators can develop hydrating creams, lotions and cleansers with this sunflower-derived emulsifier that enriches skin and hair with vitamins E and K. Per the company, it is a gentle surfactant with effective cleansing and foaming action. With low CMC, it also spreads easily and delivers actives evenly, making it ideal for COSMOS-certified cosmetics that prioritize green chemistry.
  • Durosoft PG10L-SG (INCI: Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate): Described as a versatile emulsifier and emollient, this ingredient can create luxurious lotions, sheet masks and gentle cleansers that leave skin and hair smooth and soft. This oil-in-water emulsifier, a plant-based alternative to silicone, reportedly ensures stable emulsions for low viscosity water-based formulations. It also is an effective flash foamer and wetting agent. Dermatologically tested, it meets international COSMOS and RSPO SG certification and is NMPA China registered.
  • Durasoft PG10CY-MB (INCI: Polyglyceryl-10 Caprylate): This ingredient rivals traditional solubilizers, seamlessly integrating oils into water-based formulas, according to the company. It improves product texture and stability, offers robust cleansing and creates a rich lather. It is described as ideal for luxurious natural cleansers, as it leaves skin feeling smooth.

“Durosoft offers multiple application functionalities – an emulsifying action to enhance stability and spreadability, and a solubilizing effect that allows the stable incorporation of fragrances and oils while offering fantastic formulation stability,” Carr notes.
