Recent research has uncovered a new bipartite compound capable of penetrating into the dermal-epidermal junction. Applications could be found in skin care for deeper healing and restoration of the skin.

Research published recently in Natural Product Research by Geovani Quijas, of Biodiversity Inc., et al., describes the combination of bakuchiol and salicylic acid to create a biparite salicylic acid ester of bakuchiol named Bakusylan (bakuchiol salicylate). The article claims the new ingredient offers, "a new class of functional retinoids with enhanced skin benefits." (Quijas)

The resulting ingredient is said to penetrate skin more deeply and increase protein rates in adult skin cultures, according to the study. Applications of Bakusylan would include topical skin care, as it is able to maintain skin integrity. The material's enhanced permeation reportedly allows it to travel as deeply as the dermal-epidermal junction, potentially healing into the visible skin layer.
