According to a new NPD Group report, last holiday season, the beauty industry saw a slowdown in every beauty category. This year, overall beauty sales were only up 1% year-to-date through September, but this holiday season is anticipated to see a stronger performance from beauty products.
Some of the hot holiday items expected to perform well are:
- Makeup minis offer consumers a more attractive price point for prestige products and fun holiday packaging make for great stocking stuffers, per NPD.
- Skin care sets offer consumers discounts through bundles and add the potential bonus opportunity for self-gifting.
- Forthcoming fragrance launches for women are expected to boost the fragrance industry’s Q4 results; stronger concentrations, like eau de parfum, are expected to lead for men, per NPD.
There will likely be an uptick in the sales of products containing CBD, particularly skin care, the report added.
With Cyber Monday falling in December and the holiday season underway, the last weeks of 2019 should be strong for the beauty industry, allowing for a healthy start in 2020.
