Croda Beauty has renewed its Le Perray site's membership to the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT), an organization that promotes sourcing with respect for people and biodiversity. Per the company, this renewal highlights significant progress made since its initial membership review in 2020. This follows the Sederma division's renewal in 2022.
Adopting UEBT's Ethical Practices
For example, the company trained an internal team in 2021 to use the UEBT's "Full Field Checklist" to enhance its capabilities to assess supply chains. Since then, per Croda Beauty, some supply chains, including four o’clock, beech and birch sap, have been assessed by UEBT and an improvement plan is in place, with more planned in the upcoming months.
In addition, Croda Beauty's actions include:
- establishing an ethical sourcing system, including internal assessments of suppliers and supply chains;
- developing prioritization tools and monitoring supply chain action plans;
- training internal staff on UEBT standards and support for producers;
- integrating ABS principles into internal processes;
- raising awareness for staff at all levels of the company; and
- internally assessing all of the company's new developments and new sourcing in terms of ABS obligations.
Renewed Commitment to Sustainable Sourcing
"This renewal confirms our ongoing commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing," said Manon Gerard, corporate social responsibility manager for Croda Beauty Actives and Botanicals. "We are proud of the progress made and are determined to continue our efforts for a positive impact on biodiversity and local communities."
"UEBT member companies make commitments to source their ingredients with respect for all people and biodiversity," added Rik Kutsch Lojenga, executive director of UEBT. "Renewal of their UEBT membership means that the company has shown continuous improvement and has set meaningful targets for ethical sourcing."
