The 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where cutting-edge technology merged seamlessly with imaginative brilliance, served as a global stage for visionaries, industry leaders and enthusiasts.
The event unveiled the future as the industry steps into a new era of technological marvels. In the beauty and cosmetics space specifically, self-tech plays a significant role in driving innovation and transforming the way people approach skin care, makeup, grooming and shopping.
One attendee, Amy McDonald, owner and CEO of Under a Tree, a consultancy, wellness industry developer and adviser, said, “I walked away from this trade show with hope and the utmost reverence and respect for the human spirit. Bright minds are making more solutions accessible...”
Let's explore the groundbreaking developments unveiled at CES, showcasing the transformative power of self-tech in the beauty and cosmetics industry.
3D Virtual Shopping
While many have become accustomed to the convenience of two-dimensional shopping from the comfort of their homes, the emergence of 3D virtual shopping at CES introduces an entirely new dimension to the consumer web.
Obsess is pioneering the next generation of online shopping interfaces with its proprietary patented technology. Founded by Neha Singh, a former software engineer at Google and head of product at Vogue, Obsess is on a mission to reinvent the shopping experience with AI-powered virtual stores for the web, Roblox and Apple Vision Pro.
Taking virtual shopping even further, Emova provides a virtual fitting experience designed for luxury and fashion. This solution creates a hyper-realistic 3D avatar from a simple selfie in less than 30 seconds, offering users a precise and emotional virtual experience. Emova’s technology reportedly surpasses augmented reality in accuracy, particularly relevant for industries like jewelry, cosmetics and fashion accessories.
There were even new technologies for fragrance shopping. iRomaScents is changing the way people select fragrances with a compact and precise technology that holds and emits more than 100 scents to sample and shop based on personalized preferences, benefitting retailers, fragrance brands and the consumer experience without judgment.
According to the company, shoppers “can receive recommendations from a store assistant or by answering questions from the AI ‘wizard’ on a tablet. Then they can sample the recommended products—completely contact-free, and without getting covered in different sprays.”
Beauty Devices for Better Outcomes
Putting your best skin forward is essential, and better skin shouldn’t require ever-more products and time. The Fia Air Primer is a skin primer mask device that reportedly elevates makeup adherence and significantly improves the appearance of acne, enlarged pores and oiliness in the long term. With or without makeup, the skin becomes more refined, renewed and restored.
Meanwhile, utilizing medical-grade LED masks for facial rejuvenation, Lustre ClearSkin initially gained recognition for treating post-cancer patients with scarring. The company now offers a range of LED masks, standing out with their medical and FDA-stamped products.
A French brand, Beautigloo, specializes in electro-beauty appliances and tools for your wellness routine. From refrigerated beauty boxes and cryo sticks to gua sha rollers and collagen droplets, Beautigloo is a resource for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation.
