To celebrate its centennial year, Luzi has unveiled Rose 1926, an exclusive rose variety developed in partnership with renowned French rose breeder Meilland and designed to serve as a new olfactive signature for the Swiss fragrance house.

Selected from multiple cross-bred candidates in Meilland's fields in Le Cannet-des-Maures, France, Rose 1926 combines fresh blooming rose notes with facets of passion fruit, pear, peach and Earl Grey tea.Selected from multiple cross-bred candidates in Meilland's fields in Le Cannet-des-Maures, France, Rose 1926 combines fresh blooming rose notes with facets of passion fruit, pear, peach and Earl Grey tea. Luzi

The project, initiated in 2023, represents a three-year collaboration between the two family-owned companies. Rather than creating a new fragrance, Luzi set out to create an entirely new rose with a distinctive scent profile that could inspire future fragrance development and expand its creative palette.

Selected from multiple cross-bred candidates in Meilland's fields in Le Cannet-des-Maures, France, Rose 1926 combines fresh blooming rose notes with facets of passion fruit, pear, peach and Earl Grey tea. The final selection was based not only on olfactive performance but also on visual appeal, bloom evolution, disease resistance and tolerance to water stress.

To preserve the flower's unique scent profile, Luzi captured the living rose using its proprietary ScentNovation Portrait headspace technology. The resulting analysis enabled senior perfumer Sidonie Grandperret to recreate the flower's olfactive signature as a proprietary accord for use by Luzi's perfumers and creative teams.

The initiative underscores a growing trend in fine fragrance toward proprietary natural inspirations and exclusive scent signatures that provide differentiation beyond traditional raw material sourcing. By securing exclusive production rights through Meilland, Luzi gains access to a unique olfactive asset unavailable to competitors.

Officially named Rose 1926 in honor of the company's founding year, the variety was baptized with board member Iris Altenburger, Ph.D., serving as its godmother, following the long-standing tradition of naming and christening new rose cultivars.Officially named Rose 1926 in honor of the company's founding year, the variety was baptized with board member Iris Altenburger, Ph.D., serving as its godmother, following the long-standing tradition of naming and christening new rose cultivars.Luzi

For Luzi, the launch is both a celebration of its heritage and a strategic investment in future creativity. The company describes Rose 1926 as a symbol of its commitment to innovation, sustainability and the continuous exploration of new olfactive territories as it enters its second century.
