California; CTFA to Host Issues Conference

The State of California and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association is hosting the California & Emerging Issues Conference on Nov. 14, 2007 in Los Angeles. The program is formatted to allow manufacturers and suppliers to gain insight into the thinking of industry leaders regarding California issues and legislative trends. The conferences organizers claim that the event appeals to all companies who market products in California.

The events speakers will address issues such as green chemistry, air quality and implementation of the California Safe Cosmetics Act. The sessions are as follows:

Session 1: Green Chemistry/Chemical Management Panel
Preparing for the Green Movement: The Changing Environment
The California Green Chemistry Initiative will establish the blueprint to keep California in the forefront of protecting health and the environment and create a fundamentally new approach to environmental protection and human health.
Speakers Include: Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley), Dan Jacobson, legislative director  of Environment California. 

Session 2: Producer Responsibility
Leading Change: Toward a Greener Future
Learn more about producer responsibility and what the cosmetics and personal care products industry faces regarding recycling and the change toward a greener future. Wesley Chesbro and Mark Murray will address recycling and producer responsibility issues. Chesbro is a leader in California’s modern recycling movement and a founder of both the Arcata Recycling Center and the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Murray is the Californians Against Waste organization’s lead advocate and oversees the operation of both Californians Against Waste and Californians Against Waste Foundation.
Speakers Include: Wesley Chesbro, a California Integrated Waste Management board member and Mark Murray, executive director of Californians Against Waste

Session 3: FDA Cosmetic Programs & Funding
John Hurson, executive vice president of government affairs, CTFA, and John Bailey, executive vice president of science,CTFA, will give an update of what is going on at FDA.

Session 4: 30 Minute Rounds
These concurrent sessions will allow participants to delve into a wide range of issues during these special sessions.
