There is a new entry into the ongoing saga of influencer drama—YouTube megastar Jaclyn Hill is being accused of selling unsanitary and expired lipsticks.
Not long after the Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich lipstick range debuted in late May 2019, fans were taking to social media with mixed reviews—including a Twitter user who posted a picture of a textured, bumpy bullet, tagging Hill and asking “Why is my @JaclynCosmetics Decaf Lipstick lumpy?? @JaclynHill this can't be ok right?,” reports Refinery 29.
Hill responded defensively: “You posted swatches 2 days ago loving the lipsticks? Now you're wondering why it's lumpy? It's obvious this lipstick is used & not fresh from the factory. Like any other lipstick, if you use it over other products, have dry lips, etc., things like this can happen.”
The response was not appreciated by fellow YouTuber @RawBeautyKristi—who received both a PR package and purchased lipsticks, the latter of which, she alleged, included lipsticks with fibers, lumps and suspicious spots.
In response, Hill attributed the fibers to gloves worn by workers in her factory:
If any of you are receiving lipsticks like this.... please know that this is NOT hair! My factory used brand new white gloves to do quality control & they shed all over my product! We switched to rubber gloves 2 days ago & will make sure this never happens again. https://t.co/qn6UTUJzRE— Jaclyn Hill (@Jaclynhill) June 8, 2019
“I know what goes on in labs, I know the regulations, I know the rules, I know the specifications, I know the sterility of the labs … when makeup and cosmetics are produced, and there are very, very strict regulations that need to be stuck to,” said Joy, adding, “I have never once seen cotton gloves being used. They always, always use nitrile gloves.”
Hill, in the meantime, has sent numerous Tweets informing fans that she and her team are working to resolve the issues, stating:
I’m so sorry if the product you received was anything less than perfect. If you are unsatisfied in ANY way please contact [email protected] & we will be sure to give you a full refund as well as send you a new product.— Jaclyn Hill (@Jaclynhill) June 7, 2019
