The call for entries for the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards went out on Sept. 27, 2010. Known for recognizing some of the year's most innovative products, the CEW Beauty Awards are voted on by members of the beauty industry—insiders who know best about the newest products in the market.
“A CEW Beauty Award is valuable because it is recognized by the consumer and drives sales at retail,” says CEW president Carlotta Jacobson. “For the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards, our goal is to continue to bring relevance to the awards with a focus on indie products and a brand new award that’s important for the industry.”
Product entries are being accepted from Sept. 27–Oct. 25, 2010, and are $475 for each entry. The late entry deadline is Nov. 18, 2010 with an additional $75 fee. For complete information and to enter products in the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards, visit www.cew.org.
What’s New for 2011
The CEW Eco Beauty Award, sponsored by Givaudan, was established to encourage the beauty industry to take steps toward sustainability. Givaudan's corporate sustainability program permeates every aspect of its business, making its sponsorship of this award a natural fit. This new award recognizes a beauty product or product line that has moved toward the goal of sustainability. Eligible beauty products or product lines must have been introduced within the past three years and be currently available at retail in the U.S. All entries will be reviewed and vetted by The Natural Step, an international non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development.
A New Opportunity
The 2011 CEW Beauty Awards will also offer additional opportunities for Indie beauty companies. New brands that enter the Indie Beauty Award will be eligible to exhibit at the CEW Product Demonstration for the first time ever. “This is an incredible opportunity for young brands to share and promote their product lines with retailers as well as other influential members of the industry,” declares Jacobson.
To qualify for the Indie Beauty Award, companies must have introduced products in the U.S. in the past five years, be neither wholly nor partially owned by a larger company, and cannot have already won in this category.
A Rules Change
Another change for the 2011 CEW Beauty Awards Product Demonstration, to be held on March 9, 2011, at the Metropolitan Pavilion/Altman Building, is that participation is optional (though recommended). To help voters, the full list of entry products, descriptions and images will be listed on www.cew.org.
The Voting Process
The CEW Beauty Award and Indie Beauty Award finalists will be voted on by CEW members. The CEW Board of Governors will vote to determine the winners. Both ballots—for finalists and winners—are cast electronically and tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP.
All winners of the 17th annual Beauty Awards will be announced at a luncheon on May 20, 2011, at the Waldorf=Astoria in New York City.
The 2011 CEW Beauty Awards are sponsored by Allure, Givaudan, CVS, Crest 3D White, Veet, QVC, WWD Beauty Biz, Hautelook, Arcade Marketing, The Royal Promotion Group, HBA, MaCher, Rpr Marketing Communications, KraftWorks, Suite K and Consultancy Media. Categories are defined by NPD and ballots tabulated Ernst & Young.
