Marc Jacobs Beauty has announced two elite makeup artists to serve as national artistry ambassadors for 2020: Harold James in France and Christian Schild in Germany. In these newly created ambassador roles, James and Schild will bring their unique artistry expertise and points of view to the brand to produce digital tutorials for new launches, both on Marc Jacobs Beauty’s channel and their own channels, and to create iconic looks on their celebrity clientele.

Originally from French Guiana, James grew up watching his mother apply a touch of blush and lipstick in the mirror every morning and became fascinated by the power of makeup.

As a self taught makeup artist, he trained through traveling and assisting some of the most well-known makeup artists like Pat McGrath and Topolino on international events, such as the Golden Globes.

Now, Paris-based James’ celebrity clientele includes Bella Hadid, Liya Kebede, Tina Kunakey, Susan Sarandon, Noomi Rapace, Kendall Jenner, Amber Valletta, Karen Elson, Karlie Kloss, Carolyn Murphy and Coco Rocha.

He has collaborated with top publications, including L’Officiel Paris, Madame Figaro, Elle France, Elle Italy, Vogue Italy and Harper’s Bazaar with industry-leading photographers like Peter Lindbergh, Gilles Bensimon, Desiree Mattsson, Xavi Gordo, Stefano Galuzzi, Patrick Swirc and Laurence Laborie.

Schild started working as a hairdresser in his hometown of Cologne in 2000 and soon discovered his passion for makeup. In 2010, he started his career as a freelance hair and makeup artist and it didn’t take long until international customers in the beauty and fashion industry began booking him.

He has built a name for himself over the years with his outstanding editorial covers and recognizable work in top publications, including Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, and L’Officiel.

His celebrity clientele includes burlesque queen Dita Von Teese and top models like Izabel Goulart and Toni Garrn.

“For the past three years, Marc Jacobs Beauty products have travelled in my suitcase everywhere I go and have become essential to my work,” James said. “I also share the strong values of the brand and their vision of showcasing uninhibited diversity in beauty.”

“We first worked with [James] during the wedding of his incredibly gorgeous client, Tina Kunakey, in 2018,” Tara Loftis, vice president of marketing, kendo, said. “Over the past couple of years, we have watched his artistry talent develop even further. We feel that he has so much to offer to women, and we wanted to help give him a platform to do that. We love his passion for making women feel beautiful, and are looking forward to sharing his knowledge with our brand’s loyal followers and clients in France, and throughout the world.”

“Makeup is a form of self-expression and I share Marc’s experimental approach to beauty and beauty ideals,” Schild said. “I love using Marc Jacobs Beauty products, especially the impressive highliners!”

“We have always been supportive of makeup artists, and we particularly feel that [Schild] possesses a unique and incredible talent, with remarkable precision, vision and skill,” Loftis said. “We are honored to have him join our brand as our first-ever artist in Germany, and are looking forward to sharing his beautiful work with our clients and followers in the region, and throughout the world.”
