Report: L'Oreal Withdrawing Makeup Products From Japan

L'Oreal will reportedly no longer sell its makeup products in Japan as of the end of 2021, according to a report in The Mainichi.

According to the publication, L'Oreal decided to focus on its hair care and hair color businesses, which have grown as a result of home-based demand.

The company began selling its products in Japan in 1969.

Founder Tammy Demos, previously of Cosmedix and Osmosis Beauty, notes, “Gen X is my age group. Our skin care journey has led us through the retin A era, vitamin C and then the clean beauty push. Our skin isn’t aging and inflamed from the lack of skin care products but rather the lack of nutrients that provide health.”

Notably, the company boosted its share of the selective fragrance sector by 60 basis points to 11.3%; revenues for the sector totaled about €1.6 billion.
