Estée Lauder Releases its Corporate Responsibility Report


The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. released its Fiscal 2019 Corporate Responsibility Report, which applies to the Global Reporting Initiative Standards and generally aligns to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board disclosure recommendations.


—Energy and emissions:

  • On track to achieve the goal of net zero carbon emissions through things like the installation of a 1.4 MW ground-mounted solar array (expected to offset 1,300 metric tons of CO2)
  • To source 100% renewable energy by the end of 2020, per its RE100 membership
  • Continuous roll-out of projects for climate change mitigation stages, like solar power and wind energy

—Responsible sourcing:

  • Reviewed and prioritized more than 4,000 ingredients considered sensitive
  • Began implementing biodiversity and social action plans
  • Began utilizing EcoVadis’ rating tool to monitor existing supplier performance
  • Became the first esteemed beauty company to fund the HERproject

—Social impact:

  • The M·A·C Viva Glam Fund fiscal 2018 grants positively affected more than 12 million people
  • Raised more than $10.3 million through The Breast Cancer Campaign
  • The Estée Lauder Charitable Foundation continued to support the Student Leadership Network’s “The Young Women’s Leadership School” of New York, with the model’s expansion to California

—Inclusion and diversity:

  • The Human Rights Campaign identified the company as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” with a 100% on the campaign’s corporate equality index
  • Forbes named the company “#1 Employer for Women 2019,” and recognized it within the “Best Employers for Diversity 2019”
  • 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index named the company for the second consecutive year
  • Hired a recruiter to to attend career fairs at historically black universities

—Employee engagement:

  • To provide basic sustainability and social impact training by the end of 2020
  • On track to meet its 2025 goal of engaging 50% of eligible employees in volunteer programs
