In the first quarter, Amazon owned $1.3 billion of the $80.6 billion U.S. health and personal care market. Now it wants more.

Several outlets are reporting that Amazon is in talks with Violet Grey to deliver prestige beauty to the retail giant's customer base.

Ulta's stock has taken a hit as a result, the assumption being that an Ulta-Amazon deal will not be in the offing. Ulta has been a strong player in beauty retail, with 2016 sales growing 24% year-over-year.
