Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue has been named the Color of the Year 2020.

After several years of bright, candy-colored hues, Pantone has selected a blue tone meant to instill "calm, confidence and connection."

According to a post on the company's Instagram, Classic Blue is "a timeless and enduring blue hue elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of Classic Blue offer the promise of protection; highlighting our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build.

"As we cross the threshold into a new era, Pantone has translated the hue into a multi-sensory experience to reach a greater diversity of people and provide an opportunity for everyone to engage with the color. We will be tapping into sight, sound, smell, taste and texture to make the Pantone Color of the Year for 2020 a truly immersive color experience for all."

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of The Pantone Color Institute, added, "We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on. Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation. A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication."

Pantone has partnered with LG VDL for an exclusive color cosmetics collection. The VDL + Pantone Color of the Year 2020 collection, Classic Blue, was "designed for the woman who pursues her boldest dreams and desires," the company stated.
