Clinique announced the first recipients of its nursing scholarships. The program was established to encourage women to seek careers in the health care field and to serve as a platform to address the shortage of nurses nationwide. Consistent with the brand's dermatological heritage, The Clinique Nursing Scholarship Program aims to further the collaboration between the medical community and Clinique.
"Clinique is a brand that has empowered women since 1968, both by enabling them to look and feel wonderful and by providing job opportunities," said Lynne Greene, global president, Clinique. "When looking at how we could continue this tradition, we felt it imperative to reach out and help bright, motivated women pursue careers in math and sciences—and specifically nursing."
The scholarship recipients—all current nursing students in the New York City area—are Erica Acosta, Kimberly Pierre Saint, Karin Oloffson, Cristina Vasile and Yelena McLeod.
"Clinique is proud to present these remarkable women with Clinique Nursing Scholarships and bring attention to such an important issue" said Jane Lauder, senior vice president of Clinique global product marketing. "With the demand for new nurses expected to reach 1.2 million by the year 2014, Clinique felt it was necessary to take an active role in diversifying, increasing and retaining the next generation of nurses."
