Amorepacific has announced plans to install an upcycled bench made from cosmetic bottles in public facilities for citizens. The bench is a co-creation with TerraCycle and environmental design startup Radio-B and serves as the brand’s celebration of World Environment Day.

To make the bench, Amorepacific developed terrazzo by mixing plastic cosmetic bottle powder with ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Its design highlights the importance of recycling by displaying empty bottles, of which its production used 1,400. The recycled terrazzo will be further used in Amorepacific stores and in the brand’s “Greencycle” campaign.

As the COVID-19 era has not yet ended, the bench also features a pot of plants in the middle and a one meter mark to help promote social distancing while sitting on it.
“This upcycled bench project shows how we can extend the lifecycles of products,” Howard Lee, Amorepacific communication executive director, said. “It is meaningful that we actively spread a positive message of overcoming social issues together. Amorepacific is proud to work as a global corporate citizen discovering sustainable and innovative ways to contribute to society.”
